Sara is the founder of S. Porter Restoration & Conservation LLC. For more than 25 years, she has been one of the most unique and respected art & antique repair studios in the industry. Sara brings over four decades of extensive hands-on experience in lacquer, japanning, leather & paper screens, painted finishes, eglomise, water & oil-size gilding and color-matching to virtually every level of English & Asian fine art and antiquities.

Sara studied painting and sculpture at Syracuse University, painting at Rhode Island School of Design, tile and mold-making at Parsons School of Design, ceramics and fiber at Parsons’ Africa program; and chinioserie & urushi in Tokyo, Nara and Kyoto, Japan.

Sara launched her own company to focus on rare international art and furnishings with one-of-a-kind restoration and conservation challenges after working with several prestigious firms and her expertise continues to encompass antiquities from Robert Adam, Hepplewhite and Regency to an extensive range of rare Chinese and Japanese imagery. Her insistence on using only traditional and reversible materials has made her a favorite of museums, galleries, antique dealers, interior decorators and private collectors.
